Abstract:
Using data from Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) between the years 2005 and 2013, this paper estimates the nonlinear effect of migrant workers on wage determination in urban labor market under different city scales. Based on city scale, education and experience variance, this paper creates panel data that include the number of migrant workers and the average wage of urban labor market. Using instrumental variable and system GMM estimation methods, it suggests that under the impact of migrant workers, wages in metropolitan and big cities show a pattern of rising, falling and rising again. However, wages in small and medium cities show a pattern of falling, rising and finally falling.
