Abstract:
Intergenerational income mobility reflects equality of opportunity and is mainly measured by intergenerational income elasticity. Because of measurement error and life-cycle bias, the research on intergenerational income elasticity of China differs dramatically. Based on intergenerational data from the Chinese health and nutrition survey, the paper assesses the extent of intergenerational mobility in China by correcting measurement error. It is found that intergenerational income elasticity is around 0.46 with moderate intergenerational mobility.
