Abstract This paper, in the perspective of strong and weak ties, builds the theoretical framework of how marketization affects social capital’s income returns, and do empirical test based on CFPS data. This study finds that marketization strengthens the effect of strong ties and weak ties on farmers’ total income, and the enhancement effect is larger on strong ties; marketization strengthens strong ties’ income return mainly on salary and transfer income, while the weak ties’ income return is mainly strengthened on the salary income.
