Abstract Low value-added rate of processing trade is an important problem of the development of processing trade in our country. In this paper, the author empirically analyzes factors that affect the value-added rate of China's processing trade by using the system GMM method of dynamic panel data and the panel data of Chinese provinces from 2001 to 2010. The results show that the ability of research and development and the industrial structure have an important effect on the value-added rate of Chinese processing trade. Capital deepening, technological level, investment, human capital and the average wage of manufacturing labor have no significant effect on the value-added rate of processing trade. Foreign direct investment rate has an insignificant effect in China and has a significant negative effect on processing trade value-added in the eastern region.
