Abstract This paper tests the overall and regional impacts of China’s financial development and foreign direct investment effected on firms’ R&D investment by sampling the panel data in 1998～2010 from China’s 30 provinces. The results show that financial development and foreign direct investment positively and significantly promote R&D investment of domestic enterprises with obvious regional differences.
