The Effect of Foreign Enterprises R&D Investment on the Regional Innovation System of China——An Empirical Test Based on Provincial Panel Data from 1999 to 2008

Abstract Based on the panel data of 29 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions of China from 1999 to 2008, the author made an empirical test of the impact of foreign enterprises' R&D investment on regional innovation system. The results demonstrate that foreign enterprises' R&D investment has significant positive effect on the knowledge acquisition capacity, technological innovation, innovation environment and innovation performance in the regional innovation system of our country, but its effect on knowledge creation capability is not obvious. The positive effect of foreign enterprises' R&D investment on technological innovation environment and knowledge acquisition capacity is stronger that of internal enterprises' R&D investment and its positive effect on enterprise technological innovation ability and innovation performance is weaker than that of internal enterprises' R&D investment.
