Abstract Based on the time series data from 1978 to 2008, the authors analyzed the dynamic correlation between urbanization and energy consumption in our country and examined the interaction effect between urbanization and energy consumption and its transmission mechanism. The results show that there is a co-integration relationship between urbanization and energy consumption of our country and error correction mechanism exists in the short term|the impact of urbanization on energy consumption is displayed mainly through scale effect and technical effect whereas the energy saving effect of the tertiary industry is not obvious yet
