Abstract The growth in Chinese agricultural total factor productivity is shown in the continuous technological progress during the whole period on one hand and the deviation of technological progress and technological efficiency during different periods on the other hand. Only in the recent two years have the technological progress and technological efficiency grown at the same time|prominent differences exist in the agricultural total factor productivity of the east, middle and west regions. The government public investment in agriculture and rural areas, industrialization level, external openness level and marketization level, etc. are the basic reasons for the differences.
