Abstract Entrepreneurship is an important driving force for employment, innovation and economic growth. Scholars in the fields of Economics and management have been exploring the determinants of entrepreneurship. Using panel data model on the basis of the province-level data from 2001 to 2005, the authors made an empirical research into the influence of innovative ideas, human capital, financial development and legal administration level on the development of regional entrepreneurship. The result indicates that innovative ideas and human capital are the basis of the poineering work of entrepreneurs, financial development make positive contribution to entrepreneurship and legal development is the basic guarantee for the success of entrepreneurial venture.
