Abstract Based on the panel data of 20 African resource dependent countries from 2003 to 2017, the empirical study shows that Chinese FDI has positive effect on the growth of manufacturing industry of African resource dependent countries. It is found that the impact is mainly realized through technology spillover and infrastructure development, which indicates that the investment cooperation between China and Africa is an important force to boost Africa’s industrialization, and refutes the idea that China is trying to do neo-colonialism in Africa. In addition, the study also finds that the development of Africa’s manufacturing industry needs to be optimized in terms of its trade structure, the suppression of informal economy, and the improvement of infrastructure.
