Abstract Based on the micro data of Chinese Social Survey in 2015, this study starts from the perspective of urban belonging and focuses on the decision-making mechanism of migrant worker households’ consumption and saving behavior in the process of urbanization. The research finds that improving the sense of belonging of migrant workers in cities can increase their household consumption expenditures while reducing savings, but there are significant differences in the decision-making of consumption and savings among migrant workers in term of gender, age and education.Furthermore, the mechanism research finds that consumption uncertainty could significantly interact with sense of belonging and play an important role in household savings decisions. Therefore, this uncertainty should be greatly reduced in order to release the consumption potential of migrant workers in cities through the improvement of their sense of belonging in the process of urbanization.
