Empirical Study of Agricultural Economic Development Promoted by Geographical Indication in China

Abstract:
From a macro perspective, this paper aims to discuss how the geographical indication protection mechanism promotes agricultural economic development. Meanwhile, by way of the exclusive data of the two nationwide investigation of the geographical indication, a multiple regression model is established to empirically study the relation between geographical indication and agricultural economy. Empirical results show that on the premise of controlling agricultural fixed investments as well as agricultural products exports, geographical indication can accelerate the agricultural economic increase and its professionalization and scale. So this paper proposes that the government ought to support agriculture much, improve the geographical indication legislation and set up farmland transfer system as early as possible to enhance the geographical indication protection to the agricultural products.
