Expenditure Effect and Income Effect of New Cooperative Medical System

Abstract Based on HCW disposition effect model and IEPSVAR system, the measured results show that NCMS obviously reduces the medical expenses of rural residents. The potential medical expenses in different districts are 17.3% to 322.8% higher than the practical expenses. The effect is especially obvious in the seriously polluted or highly developed districts. The growth effect on rural residents’ income could vary from 0.19% to 3.55% among different districts. It can be concluded that the NCMS not only truly reduces the burden of medical treatment for farmers, but also promotes the economic development in rural areas.
