Abstract In this paper, the authors analyzed the mechanism of how external knowledge and the diversity of regional knowledge impact the regional innovation and discussed the influence of different types of knowledge diversity by the way of GMM with dynamic panel data during 2000-2011. The empirical results show that the technology innovation is mainly pushed by the domestic R&D investments. The influence of external knowledge is mainly through international trade ,and there is a significant positive effect. The diversity of knowledge stimulates the innovation as a whole, and the correlated diversity of the knowledge has an obvious positive influence than the uncorrelated diversity.
