The Theoretical and Empirical Research on the Impact of Internet on International Trade

Abstract As Internet technology matures,Internet-based e-commerce model is widely used among global trade.In this context,this paper took iceberg costs as the starting point to introduce the Internet factor into the international trade model,and establish panel data models based on the global 244 countries’ data from 2000 to 2010.Both theoretical derivation and empirical research had concluded that:the Internet have a positive impact on import trade volume,export trade volume and total volume,and with rising income levels,the impact of the Internet on the import volume gradually weakened,the impact on export volume gradually enhanced.At last,the paper suggested that governments and businesses should pay more attention on the influence of the Internet on international trade,promote the Internet infrastructure and e-commerce applications vigorously,and promote the rapid development of international trade.
