Abstract This study aims to analyze the mutual influence mechanism between human capital, technical progress and industrial transformation. Nelson-Phelps model was approached in this paper with panel data for the period of 2001 to 2010 in 31 provinces of China. The empirical analysis shows that industrial transformation and human capital are the sources of China’s technical progress, and both industrial transformation and human capital facilitate China’s technical progress. Therefore, in order to promote technological progress of China, industrial transformation and human capital accumulation, policy maker must consider regional human capital promotion, innovative capabilities of enterprises, leading industry upgradation and industrial cluster cultivation.
