Abstract The paper analyzes the effect of Service Foreign Direct Investment (SFDI) on the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) of service industries with the data of 1999~2002 and 2004~2009, on the basis of estimating TFP of service industries in China. Furthermore, the paper studies the effect of SFDI on the service sectors whose TFP growth rate increases and the service sectors whose TFP growth rate decreases. The results show that SFDI have a greater effect on the service sectors whose TFP growth rate increases than the service sectors whose TFP growth rate decreases.
