Abstract Based on the method of Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI), the authors took the energy consumption of Shaanxi province as a case and studied its growing energy consumption from 1999 to 2009. The findings show that intensity effect is the leading factor refraining the growth in the gross energy consumption of Shaanxi province while the effect of structure is not obvious; as for the industry situation, the overall influencing factors mainly come from industrial departments; according to the definition of this paper about the economic industries, other industries in third industry are in the second place in the analysis of the affecting factors, but it works less strongly than industrial departments.
