Intra-industry Technology Spillover of FDI and Industrial Characteristics--An Empirical Analysis Based on China’s High-Tech Industry

Abstract With a large amount of foreign investment swarming into China, how toacquire the technology spillover effect of foreign investment and make it servethe improvement of industry innovation capability becomes a hotspot in the research field. With its characteristics of high knowledge intensity, high growth, and high radiation, high-tech industry has become the important force for the adjustment of industrial structure and the enhancement of innovation capability. Using the method of panel data analysis, considering the influence of lag phase, the author makes an empirical analysis of the technology spillover effect of FDI by using the data of 15 subsectors of china’s high-tech industry from 1999 to 2008, and analyzes the industrial characteristics with significant spillover effect. The results show that the industry of the manufacture of electronic components, medical equipment and appliance and instrument and meter has significant spillover effect and shows the characteristics of modest capacity gap between domestic and foreign corporations, lower absorptive capacity, moderate foreign participation, lower market concentration and moderate level of opening up
