Abstract The author mainly discusses whether excessive fluctuation exists in Shanghai A share market from the overall index and the perspective of different industries. The empirical results show that the return rate of stock index for the past one to five years is negatively correlated with that for the future one to five years. And the empirical result of industries proves the conclusion, too,which shows that there is excessive volatility in the stock market of China.
