Abstract In the collaborative innovation projects among supply chain enterprises, implicit cognitive distance and social distance are increasingly valued by researchers as key variables affecting cooperative innovation performance. Based on the data of the rail transit industry supply chain, the paper empirically studies the impact of cognitive distance and social distance on the performance of cooperative innovation and their influence mechanisms. The study finds that the cognitive distance and social distance between supply chain enterprises have a positive impact on the new product novelty, but have a negative one on the new product development speed. New product novelty has a positive impact on the cooperative innovation performance while new product development speed has a negative impact on it. New product novelty and new product development speed have a mediating role in the influencing process of cognitive distance and social distance between supply chain enterprises affecting cooperative innovation performance.
