Abstract�� Using the data from a survey covering 31 China��s provinces in 2012, this paper estimates the return to education in different education stages with the method of quantile regression, and then analyzes the income distribution in China. The empirical evidences suggest that the rate of education return has increased in the recent years, but the gaps in the rate of education return among different income levels and different stages of education are still considerable. Furthermore, with the promotion of education stage, high-income people will achieve a higher education return. Therefore, in order to narrow the income gap effectively, the government should focus on the education development in less developed areas and the popularization of compulsory education, but the expansion of higher education.
